I'd read a couple of reviews that mentioned exploding doors and smoke coming out from the front and was a little concerned about purchasing mine, but I haven't had these experiences. Steam escapes, but I haven't seen smoke. I've owned this toaster oven for about six months and have used it almost daily. I use it for toasting, baking, and roasting, so it's used regularly at temperatures up to 400 degrees. I sear steaks or fish on the stove and finish them off in the oven; I roast beets, Brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes, etc.; and of course, I toast my bagels to my liking. I can adjust the level of the rack and toasting time. There are only two adults in my house, so this toaster oven is perfect. With summer around the corner, I can roast without heating up the kitchen with my large oven. I have to say that the outer casing becomes pretty hot, but as long as you're careful not to touch it or leave something on top of it, it's not a problem. I like this Krups toaster oven so much that I'm purchasing one for my friend.

Upon receiving this highly rated toaster oven, we started the initial use procedure of running the oven for 15 minutes, to remove any possible manufacturing residues from the appliance as per the owners manual. Approximately ten minutes into this process, the glass door on the front of the toaster oven shattered outwards from the oven, spraying glass across the kitchen counter and onto the floor.
Fortunately, my wife, who was standing in front of and looking directly at the oven when this happened, was far enough away to avoid being hit in the face by the flying glass. New owners beware.
